The Festa season brings even more sound and colour to the Maltese Islands.
During the summertime, Maltese skies come alive with bright fireworks displays, for
each week there is one or more village feast going on ... After a day at the beach,
many enjoy dressing up for the annual activities intended to bring union to the town
or village (though this may not always be the case).
Many will invite their family and friends from other villages, to join in their celebrations,
while showing off their beautiful homes, where food and drinks abound. The party then
proceeds to pour bunches of finely shreaded paper on the procession of the village patron
saint ceremoniously being carried around the decorated streets until the statue reaches
the splendidly lit church, which is the centre of all festive activity.
As may be expected of any Maltese celebration, food stalls line the streets. Typically,
one finds the traditional Qubbajt (nougat) stalls, as well as hotdog stands, candy floss,
hamburgers and chips, as well as kiosks selling ice creams and cold drinks. Bars and clubs are obviously very busy.
