CALENDER

posted by: Sarah Harrison

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on where to start looking for information on my great-great-grandfather who was stationed in Malta in the late 19th century. He was in the British army (regiment as yet unknown) and his surname was Calender. He married a local girl in Malta, and one of their children was Edith Jessica Calender (my great grandmother.)

At the moment I am getting nowhere with this side of my family history and would be grateful for any advice.

CAMELLERI (Camilleri)

Hi there, I am looking for my father's family.   He was born in Malta in 1944 and was one of 17!

His parents were Delores [Dolores] and Emanuel Camelleri [Camilleri].   I know of a cousin called Zaren who still lives in the parents' house in Hamrun. I think one of my dad's sisters lives a couple of doors away from Zaren. I have a cousin called Charles Borg.

Please, I would really like to get started on my family tree and find those living rellies. So do please, please email me if you know the family or you can offer some advice as to go about it.   Thanks in advance for any info.

Additional Notes from my-malta.com:

  1. 'Paulo' may be substituted by 'Paolo',
  2. 'Zebbuge' by 'Zebbug' and pls note that there are two such locations on the Maltese Islands;
    Haz-Zebbug on Malta and Zebbug on Gozo, and
  3. 'Zeitun' by 'Zejtun', the latter being the correct/ modern spelling.

  4. 'Luigi' and 'Aloisio' may be interchangeable
  5. 'Catarina' may be found as 'Katarina', 'Katrin', or 'Caterina'
  6. 'Matrice' on Gozo implies the capital, i.e. 'Rabat'/'Victoria', possibly even the Gozo Cathedral within the Citadel.
