  What's New?

Gosh! It's been months since our last update page was issued... So you're probably thinking that we're getting lazy here at my-malta.com, right? Hardly!

The fact is that we've been very busy building new pages and updating old ones, but as we've often told you, we don't like to bother our subscribers with frequent newsletters.   Then again, we may be taking this a bit too far to the other extreme.   Let us know if you wish more frequent updates and we'll think about it.

Again, we have changed our homepage a little.

Someone suggested (in our guestbook) that we should change our background... and so we did.   Thanks for the tip.   It is now less conspicuous (or didn't anyone even notice?)

We also added the link to Local Newspapers, so that it is now even more convenient to make us your homepage.

Someone else asked for better site search facilities.   We now have two separate search engines at work: one provided by Bravenet and another by Google.

Finally, we've added a Random Link gateway in our Homepage.

As you can see, these are further reasons that make it a good idea to set "my-malta.com" as your homepage!

Virus Warning

You will have seen our pop-up warnings on various main pages. Take heed. Be careful. Do not open any e-mail that looks suspicious, even if it appears to be coming from this website!

Viruses are created by crafty, even if extremely foolish, persons. Even we sometimes receive e-mail that "seem" to be coming from this website, BUT they aren't.   This evil malpractice is killing e-mail and the internet.

We hate to put it this way, but you've been warned!

Te Deum Time is an extremely colourful article about the traditional feast held in the village of Zabbar ... or should we say the 'city' of Zabbar since it was christened Citta' Hompesch.

There's hardcore pique between rival band clubs, fantastic displays of monumental gadgetry, a sea of people, lots of beer and quite a bit of flirting going on. Traditional? Oh well, people might see it that way in fifty years' time.

More from the Mason-Bailey Album.

We had four updates in October 2003, bringing magnificient photographs of Malta's Grand Harbour during the thirties or thereabouts. These photos expand to allow more detailed views and are scrollable for even better appreciation.

And we're not done yet! There's more to come!

A collection of Large Format images have been grouped into a page so as to allow visitors who have missed out on some of them to see them here.

The idea is to keep adding photos to this page so it could serve as a picture album of miscellaneous images from what we like to call Your Window onto the Maltese Islands.

Another collection, this time of memorabilia and photographs belonging to one of our visitors, Joe Mallia, who has more stuff and photos than are included in this page -- so more will follow in part two, soon.

Some pages received a facelift.   These included:

A WW2 Diary from RAF Sgt.Thomas Barker, BEM.

No amount of description can substitute your going through this detailed work, painstakingly transribed from the original handwritten diaries by Sgt. Barker's son, Lawrence.

The photographs, commentaries, glossary and, soon to follow, Sgt. Barker's first hand account of the 'Surrender of the Italian Fleet at Malta', in which he participated (to decommission the enemy aircraft), will prove valuable to any serious follower of WW2 history.   uploaded in weekly installments.

Who am I?

Here's a chance for those who ever wondered who's behind this website to find out!   This website is one of those that are built on the principles of moral values, so that it is full of safe content.

Here's a chance to get to know your host better, if you're interested...

  News, Opinions, Friendly Links

May 1st, 2004: Malta joined the European Union.

Let's hope the bureaucracy doesn't increase much more!!   And let's hope that our environment will get better protection, now that our Government has not only a moral duty, but a legal obligation to get off its backside and enforce the laws.

Reminder:   The illegal trappers' hides at the Hagar Qim Archaeological Park are still there and still illegal!   Hellooooo???

May 15th, 2004: Malta places 12th in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Call it sour grapes if you will, but the contest's only value is in promoting tourism ... as far as Malta is concerned at least.

We feel so insulted by the usual 'neighbours' voting for 'neighbours' -- this joke has gone too far!   Our 'Julie and Ludwig' were a highly talented couple who surpassed most of the other performers on the technical level, but humble Malta has no participating neighbours in the Eurovision.   So I guess our result was mostly based on performance, not cross-border comradeship.

Heartfelt thanks to all those who though Malta's entry was worth voting for.

  Site Mission Statement

This site does not sell anything!   It has no ties with or obligations towards any organization and, therefore, has no hidden agenda or ulterior motive.

It's purpose is educational; aimed at helping those who wish to learn about what really makes the Maltese Islands what they are. We look at every known angle, taking no sides, exposing an objective (possibly uncomfortable) truth.

Any recommendations given are based on our sincere opinions, and are not motivated by any material gains.

The prime objective of this site is to promote the Maltese Islands, their history, culture and lifestyle.   In so doing, the rest of our objectives are also met.   The candid manner in which we describe ourselves may often constitute (national) auto-criticism, intended to expose wrongdoings in the hope that they be corrected by whoever has the faculty to right the wrongs; at times these being the authorities, at other times ourselves (today's and tomorrow's voting public) !

The protection of our Environment (in its broadest sense) is foremost among our priorities.

And finally, it is another of our aims to unite all those who love the Maltese Islands, wherever these people may live, whatever their nationality, culture or creed, as long as they are people of Good Will.
